Originally by: Mr Ninjaface graphics look like crap, totally stole capsule/pod from eve they call it a capsule pod you cant pod people and you cant really die as far as I can tell. Plus its all twitch and jerk based.
Because EVE totally originated the concept of an escape pod . Who cares about death anyway? Its not like you actually die in any mmo made. In EVE you just get sent to a station and have to buy a new ship. Maybe lose some implants if you happened to have some. Heck, i use podding to jump around occasionaly.
And twitch is a bad thing? It would be so awesome to actually fly your ship rather than be flown by it.
Originally by: Donna Darko Combine the words billions with the quality of the pictures and I forsee 5 DVDs to install the **** game (unless they have only a few pictures repeated for all the planets). God forbid I think of a graphics update patch. [/quote
All the planets are procedurally generated, which makes sense, considering the number of systems. The Elite games used procedural engines to create millions of planets, though they didnt look nearly so good as these. Of course, with procedural you run the danger of everything looking rather generic after a while(the programmer actually admits that), but then, i cant think of many planets in EVE that aren't pretty generic looking.
Originally by: Jongo Fett i played the combat trial of this, tbh its not that good at all. The graphics are quite good but the gameplay is lacking.
The prototype, which all the devs love repeating, and is displayed on the splash screen when you start it, is just a testbed to test out combat mechanics and networking and such. Its not there for gameplay. Still, while it lacked depth, it was fun for a couple hours.

Ummmm... No.
1. Those are not "Screenshots" they are renders. The engine isn't even close to being done.
2. Last time I looked into the game, it was being produced by a SINGLE person.
"The game is currently in early development, and no playable version has been released yet. Estimated time before first playable release: 1 to 2 years (in best case)."
That's what it said 2yrs ago. Nothing on the site is changed since.
1. while many of the screenshots are renders, a good many are not. Every shot of a planet is realtime, as is every video.
Not a render Also not a render Also not a render
2. The single person has had a team of developers for a long time. And the website has only been up for a bit over a year, not two.
I'm not saying dont have doubts.. you'd be stupid not too. Its an ambitious project, and they very well may not succeed.
But I hope they do. :)
